Purgatoire, Rabat, 2013

Purgatory is a photographic series relating to immigrants who arrive in morocco to take boats to Europe or who fail to cross into the continent and end up in the city of Rabat, in a state of limbo. for this series, I traveled to meet friends who have left Douala (Cameroun), in the hope of finding a better life in Europe. They find themselves stuck in Rabat waiting for their turn as they say Depicted in the act of perpetual waiting, they recount: its not my turn yet “God’s time has not yet come”. This photographic series, probes the lives and precarious existence of these illegal immigrants living in Rabat, during these long moments of waiting, as well as the conditions in which they live. The purpose is not so much to critique immigration policies but, rather, to bear witness and provide intimate insight into their lives.
